Google AI Overview API for Answers & Sources

Response structure

The result is a search envelope: aioverview contains the AI answer when present, while organicResults and peopleAlsoAsk describe other collected search results. Read the nested envelope instead of assuming a top-level answer.

• aioverview.text, aioverview.sources: the overview and its cited pages. Check aioverview for null before reading either field.
• organicResults: available organic search results, separate from the AI overview citations.
• peopleAlsoAsk: related questions when present. Search panels are optional, so missing fields are not empty rankings.

Measure how often important queries trigger an overview, then inspect cited domains and brand mentions on the queries that do. Keep no-overview observations separate from collection failures.

How to collect Google AI Overviews answers with the API

Store your dashboard API key in the server environment variable QUERYING_API_KEY, then run this request. The country code selects the collection market; it does not translate the question.

Read the completed response

Replace TASK_ID with task.id from the submission. Poll at intervals while QUEUED or RUNNING; when COMPLETED, read the engine fields inside response. Handle FAILED as an error. Retrieve and store the result within 24 hours of completion, or receive it by webhook.

Cost and availability

Each completed task uses 2 credits. Failed tasks are not charged. Check supported regions and plan concurrency.

Limits when interpreting results

Google does not generate an AI Overview for every search. A completed result with no overview is a valid observation, not a promise of an answer for every keyword. Availability also depends on the market and query.
